I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings
by Maya Angelou

got me to like biographical books and i began to think about the idea that how everyone has a story to tell no matter what. usually we hide things/topics/relationships that hold the most significance or key value for us

Harry Potter Books Set
by Jk Rowling

<3 my favourite series because it opens my imagination.

Speak
by Laurie Halse Anderson

This book is important because it helps young people to recognise both the signs of sexual assault/PTSD and the manners in which cisgender men, may be toxic people. Adults must teach how not to victim-blame the survior of this type of trauma, especially. Helped me feel less alone when I was going through a similar mental health crisis. Unity is crucial for healing.

To Kill A Mockingbird
by Harper Lee

A very memorable novel about how we should be contra injustice and that those who do are very important to society. when we dont stand up for what's right, we are on the oppressive side. it might not be easy or simple but the correct thing to do is always going to be justified regardless of anything else.

Verity
by Colleen Hoover

This was very different from the steamy romances that Hoover is known for. This was a really good suspense/thriller story. The ending left me wondering what was true and what were lies. Really good read for anyone who likes tension and a twist.

White Fragility
by Robin DiAngelo

I listened to the audiobook of this. I found it very informative. I know some people are annoyed by some of the things Diangelo says, but she makes a lot of fair points and references a lot of research, as well as combines it with some of her personal experiences. One of the takeaways I have is that you can't break it down to just good and bad. The racist = bad and not racist = good. We can't escape racism because it's embedded in our societal norms. Our laws and rules. All we can do is learn and be better. No one is exempt from racism. Even those who study equity and work to be antiracist sometimes slip up. We (white people, mostly) make inappropriate comments or don't realize that certain things we say or do harm other people. No matter how hard we try to be "good" and not racist, we can't escape the racist ways of this country. All we can do is continue to learn and grow.

Push
by Sapphire

I liked how her writing improved as I read the book. My heart absolutely broke for her when she discusses she's HIV positive. Also, her yearning for love and being completely confused by what it is.
